Mayo Clinic in Arizona | Proton Beam Therapy Program

  |  in BlogComments Off on Mayo Clinic in Arizona | Proton Beam Therapy Program

The Mayo Clinics in Arizona and Minnesota are bringing the Proton Beam Therapy Program to their respective clinics as yet another tool to beat cancer in their patients.  Treatment for patients in Arizona will begin in 2016.

This new radiation therapy uses protons instead of x-rays to specifically target only the cancer or tumor cells and not any of the surrounding tissue or organs.  This is a phenomenal breakthrough for treating cancers and tumors that are near critical organs such as the brain and spinal column.  The beam is so precise that it can move through normal tissue and only stops where directed in the cancer.  This is especially great news for children and young adults.

Treatments will still be provided over the course of days, weeks or months and the Days Inn & Suites offers special room rates for patients and their family.   Relax in a clean and comfortable room after a long day at the clinic with staff that cares about your stay and your loved ones health.
